Painting by a Remodeling Crew

We paint because every remodel ends in paint, and we got tired of waiting on painters. Now the same people who float the drywall and hang the trim also spray the cabinets and cut in the ceilings. It shows in the finish, because the painter knows where every patch is.

Prep Is Most of the Job

Paint is only as good as what is under it. Our interior prep means filling every nail hole and dent, sanding the patches, caulking the gap between trim and wall, and priming anything that was patched or is changing color by more than a couple of shades. Furniture is moved to the middle of the room and sheeted. Floors get paper or drop cloths taped at the base.

Ceilings get painted first, then walls, then trim. Two coats on walls, not one thick one. Doors are pulled and sprayed flat when there are more than a few of them. Hardware goes back on clean, not painted over.

Cabinet Painting

Painting cabinets is the fastest way to change a kitchen without replacing it. The doors and drawer fronts come off and go to a spray setup. The boxes are cleaned, scuffed, primed with a bonding primer and sprayed in place with the kitchen masked. A hard enamel or lacquer finish is what holds up to hands and dishwater. Rolled latex on cabinets peels, and we do not do it that way.

Exterior Painting in the Heat

Exterior paint fails in DFW for two reasons: it went on over chalky, unprimed siding, or it went on at 100 degrees and flashed before it could level. We pressure wash, scrape loose paint, sand the edges, spot prime bare wood, caulk the joints and then paint in the morning before the walls get hot in summer or midday in winter. Two coats on the sunny sides is not optional. Trim gets brushed, siding gets sprayed and back rolled.

Picking Colors and Sheens

We will not pick your color for you, but we will tell you what works. Flat on ceilings. Eggshell or satin on walls in living areas, satin or semi gloss in bathrooms and kitchens. Semi gloss on trim and doors. Sample pots on the actual wall, looked at in morning and evening light, before we buy the gallons. Whites in particular shift toward yellow or blue depending on the room, and the only way to know is to test.
