What We Install

Flooring is the job that changes a house the fastest. One crew, one week for a typical single story, and every room looks different when you walk back in.

• Luxury vinyl plank and rigid core plank. Waterproof, forgiving on a slab that is not perfectly flat, and the pick for most of the houses we work in.
• Porcelain and ceramic tile. Wood look planks, large format squares, patterned squares for entries and laundry rooms.
• Hardwood and engineered wood. Nailed over a plywood subfloor or glued to concrete, depending on the house.
• Laminate. Still a solid choice for bedrooms and rentals when the budget goes elsewhere.

Every floor gets new baseboards or the old ones pulled and reset, quarter round only where you ask for it, and transitions at doorways that sit flat.

The Slab Is the Job

Almost every house in Tarrant County sits on a concrete slab poured over expansive clay. Those slabs move. In a house from the 1980s it is normal to find a half inch of drop across a living room and a hump where a wall used to be. Plank flooring laid over that will click and separate at the joints within a season.

So we check the floor with a ten foot straightedge before we quote it. High spots get ground. Low spots get a cement based leveler. Moisture is tested on slabs that have had tile or carpet pad on them for decades. The flooring goes in only after that, which is why our floors stay quiet.

Getting the Old Floor Out

Removing tile from a slab is the dirtiest thing in remodeling. Thinset has to be chipped off down to bare concrete, and the dust goes everywhere unless it is controlled. We seal off the rooms, run vacuums on the chipping hammers and haul the debris out before we leave. Carpet, pad and tack strip are quick. Glued down wood and old vinyl take a scraper and patience.

If your house was built before 1980 and the old vinyl is original, tell us. Some of that material needs testing before it is disturbed, and we plan for that up front.

Whole House or One Room

We do both. A single bedroom in plank is a one day job once the prep is done. A whole house means moving furniture room by room, pulling doors and trimming the bottoms so they clear the new floor, and running the plank in one direction through the whole space with no transition strips between rooms. That last part matters more than people expect. It is what makes a house feel bigger after new floors.

Where Flooring Fits in a Bigger Job

On a kitchen with new cabinets, the floor goes in before the cabinets are set. In a tile bathroom remodel, the floor tile is set after the shower is built and before the vanity lands. When we are already painting the walls and trim, the floor goes last so the painters are not working over a finished surface. Sequencing is the job, and it is one reason we keep flooring inside our remodeling service list instead of sending it to someone else.
