Exterior Work We Do

The outside of a house in DFW takes a beating. Sun on the south and west walls, hail every few springs, and clay soil that moves the foundation under the brick. Exterior remodeling for us means the parts of the house between the roof and the slab.

• Siding replacement in fiber cement, engineered wood and vinyl.
• Window replacement, including enlarging openings and adding windows.
• Entry doors, patio doors, French doors and sliders.
• Covered patios, pergolas and deck rebuilds.
• Rotted trim, fascia, soffit and the wood around garage doors.
• Exterior paint on siding, trim and brick.

Siding and Trim Rot

The bottom two feet of siding on the sunny side of a house is where rot starts, along with the trim at the corners and around windows. Hardboard siding from the 1980s and 1990s swells and crumbles when the paint fails. We pull it back to the sheathing, replace anything soft underneath, add a house wrap, and install fiber cement or engineered wood siding with the joints flashed and the bottom edge kept clear of the ground and the slab.

Partial replacement is fine when the rest of the wall is sound. We match the profile and paint the whole wall so the repair does not show.

Windows and Doors

Original single pane aluminum windows are still common in houses around Haltom City and North Richland Hills, and they are the reason the west bedroom never cools off. We replace them with vinyl or fiberglass double pane units, either as inserts into the existing frame or as full frame replacements when the old frame is rotted or you want a bigger opening.

Doors get the same treatment. A wider patio door, a set of French doors onto a new deck, or a taller front entry means reframing the opening, a new header if the width changes, and the brick or siding cut and patched around it. We do all of that in house.

Patios and Outdoor Rooms

A covered patio is the addition most people build and use every day from March to November. We frame patio covers tied into the existing roof or freestanding on posts, with a ceiling, fans and lights, and a concrete or paver floor. Decks get rebuilt in treated pine or composite. If the plan grows into a fully enclosed room, that becomes an addition with a foundation and permit, and we can quote it either way.

Exterior Paint

Paint is the maintenance item that protects everything else. Exterior paint on siding and trim needs the surface scraped, sanded, primed where bare, caulked at every joint, and coated when the temperature is right. Painting brick is a one way decision, and we will say so before we do it. Details on prep and product are on our painting page for interiors and exteriors.
