Interior Work We Handle

Interior remodeling is the category for everything inside the house that is not a kitchen or a bathroom on its own. Some of it is a single room. Some of it is the whole house with the family living in half of it while we work on the other half.

• Removing walls to open a floor plan, with beams where the wall carried load.
• Drywall repair and replacement, including ceilings after a leak.
• Texture: orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel, or smooth if you want it.
• Insulation in walls and attics while things are open.
• Trim, baseboards, crown, window casing, shiplap and wainscot.
• Interior doors, closet systems, built-ins and fireplace surrounds.
• Paint on all of it.

Opening Up the Floor Plan

Houses built in DFW before about 2000 tend to have a formal living room nobody uses, a separate dining room and a kitchen behind a wall. Taking out one or two walls turns that into one room. The work is the same every time: confirm what the wall is carrying, set a temporary wall, cut out the old one, set a beam and posts, then patch the ceiling, floor and side walls where the wall stood.

The patch is where a lot of contractors fall down. A ceiling patch that is not floated wide enough shows a shadow in afternoon light for the life of the house. Ours are floated three feet each way and textured to match.

Drywall and Texture Matching

Matching existing texture is a skill, and it is the difference between a repair you can find and one you cannot. Most houses around Haltom City have orange peel or a light knockdown. We spray a test patch, compare it dry, and adjust the mix before touching the real wall. Smooth walls are a bigger job: skim coating the whole surface, sanding, and a high build primer before paint. Ask for it if you want it, and we will tell you what it involves.

Insulation While the Walls Are Open

If a wall is open for any reason, insulating it costs very little extra. Exterior walls in older houses often have thin or slumped batts. Attic insulation may be half the depth it should be. We put new batts in every exterior wall we open, seal the penetrations, and top off the attic when the job calls for it. In this climate it pays back in the first summer.

Trim, Built-Ins and Fireplaces

Trim is the finish that people notice without knowing why. We replace the thin ranch baseboard from the 1980s with a taller profile, case the windows that were drywall wrapped, and add crown where the ceiling height supports it. Built-in bookcases, hallway cabinets, mudroom benches and a new fireplace surround in stacked stone or tile are all shop and site work our crew does. Shiplap on an accent wall or a hallway ceiling is a popular one.
